We did it Vancouver Island! We broke our record of 30,000 + expected over 3 days at VIM’s first winter market at Nanaimo North Town Centre (formerly Sears building).
On Friday, Dec. 14th – we opened the doors to the public at 10am and folks flocked in from all 4 entrances to shop our 200+ local wares from across the island.
Just after 11am on Friday, there was a power outage in the North end of Nanaimo that lasted over 2 hrs and we were left with emergency lighting and no internet for the duration of the outage. Luckily, most of our vendors were not effected by this incident and our shoppers continued to shop and support all the hard working vendors that participated in our event.
Our licensed area sponsored by Longwood Brewery was serving their signature beers, Meridale Ciders and white and red wine all weekend. This was the first time we provided an open local craft beer experience and folks who came to enjoy performances by Paul and Jess Rocks on Friday, Eric Harper on Saturday and Dennis Atkins on Sunday really had an amazing time.
On Saturday, we had a consistent flow of people throughout the day and time flew by with shoppers participating in games like “Last Minute Santa” and winning VIM bucks to spend with our local vendors.
On Sunday, Nanaimo News Bulletin visited briefly and captured the essence of our event.
We’d like to thank all our sponsors, partners, volunteers, family and friends for being a part of our VIM network and all the vendors who took part in this historical event.
